Dena`ina Civic and Convention Center
Anchorage, AK
Design Architect: LMN Architects
The result of a successful public / private partnership, the new civic and convention center in downtown Anchorage is approximately 200,000 SF in aggregate size. It includes a 50,000 SF exhibit hall, a 25,000 SF ballroom, and roughly 12,000 SF of additional meeting rooms. The facility has extensive circulation, registration and support areas. The design is vibrant and contemporary – offering convenient, flexible and attractive space to visitors and the Anchorage community. Construction began in April 2006, and opened ahead of schedule in September 2008.
A citizens' panel charged with naming Anchorage's new convention center has settled on "Dena`ina Civic and Convention Center" in recognition of the Athabascan people who first settled the Upper Cook Inlet basin area some 1,500 years ago.
