PORTFOLIO: HOSPITALITY
Lang Fang Golf Resort Community
Lang Fang, China
The Langfang Wanzhuang Recreational and Ecological Park is a 54-hole golf club resort and residential community is located approximately 50 kilometers southeast of Beijing. In collaboration with the master planner, Belt Collins, RIM Architects developed the schematic design for a Central Clubhouse, Golf Academy/Driving Range Clubhouse, Artist Studios, and single-family residences.
The picturesque traditional design and massing of the Central Clubhouse, with deep porches below and gables above, provide an iconic image. Refined exterior detailing of stone, stucco, and wood with custom designed columns and lattice-work combines traditional western architectural themes with modern interpretations of Chinese architectural motifs. A richly detailed interior with high ceilings and expansive glass viewing the exterior gardens and golf course complete a traditional theme appropriate to a major golf club and residential community.
The Golf Academy/Driving Range Clubhouse utilizes a similar architectural motif, and opens up to natural daylight through slit-windows and wood lattices. Bold concrete forms on the first floor anchor the building to the ground, forming a cradle for the second floor.
The Artist Studios draw inspiration from traditional Chinese lanterns glowing at night to become patterned beacons in the landscape. Materials are primarily stone, concrete, wood and glass creating a local aesthetic and unified design.
The traditionally-inspired, single-family residential designs incorporate regional materials and building planning in both traditional and new ways, to create comfortable and modernly efficient homes that relate to the life style and context of the Langfang project with a timeless elegance.
