PORTFOLIO: MEDICAL / HEALTH / WELLNESS
South Peninsula Hospital
Homer, Alaska
Design Architect: KMD Medical Consultant: HDR Interior Designer: RIM Design
RIM Architects designed and provided construction documents for a 46,500 SF addition and 12,200 SF renovation to the existing 2-story South Peninsula Hospital. This project was divided into two phases: Phase 1 was completed in Fall 2007 and Phase 2 is currently under construction.
To provide better medical and emergency care to its community, the South Peninsula Hospital Expansion project includes the following:
• New emergency department • Expansion and renovation to radiology department • New acute care wing with 18-beds (single patient rooms) • New pharmacy • New laboratory • New materials management area • New heli-stop on roof • Remodeled surgery staff, pre-op and post-op areas • Remodeled boiler room • Extended site improvements to improve drop-off and traffic circulation
The new semi-circular patient wing accommodates 18 single patient rooms that have unobstructed views of the Kachemak Bay. With the nurses station centrally located in the patient wing, nurses can easily see and monitor the patient rooms. Electronic charting areas will be situated between every two adjacent acute care rooms. Relocation of the pharmacy and lab to the second floor of the hospital will bring all patient related services to the same level, separating patient care from general facility operations.
